जिनेवा स्विट्जरलैंड में दूसरा सबसे अधिक आबादी वाला शहर है जो कि रोन नदी पर स्थित है, जिनेवा एक वैश्विक शहर, एक वित्तीय केंद्र है, और कूटनीति और सबसे महत्वपूर्ण संयुक्त राष्ट्र अंतरराष्ट्रीय केंद्र के सहयोग के लिए दुनिया भर में एक केंद्र है, जिनेवा लंदन और ज्यूरिख के बाद तीसरा यूरोपीय वित्तीय केंद्र के रूप में वर्णित किया गया है और दुनिया के आठवें सबसे महत्वपूर्ण वैश्विक वित्तीय केन्द्र के रूप में प्रसिद्ध है | जिनेवा फ्रांस के सीमावर्ती शहर के रूप में जाना जाता है, जिनेवा की जलवायु समशीतोष्ण है, सर्दियों में आमतौर पर रात में प्रकाश रहता है | संग्रहालय और कला दीर्घाएं शहर में हर जगह हैं.जिनेवा कि अर्थव्यवस्था मुख्य रूप से सेवा शेत्र पर आधारित है जिसमे निजी बैंकिंग यंहा मुख्य सेवा व्यवसाय है यंहा अनुमानत 1 खरब अमरीकी डालर का प्रबंधन किया जाता है|

रोन यूरोप की प्रमुख नदियों में से एक है, स्विट्जरलैंड में उद्भव और दक्षिणी फ्रांस से गुजरती है | इससे पहले कि रेलमार्गो और राजमार्गों को विकसित किया गया है, रोन नदी एक महत्वपूर्ण अंतर्देशीय व्यापार और परिवहन मार्ग था

जिनेवा महोत्सव 2011 का भव्य शुभारम्भ रात 10:30 बजे गुरुवार 4th अगस्त को रंगबिरंगी आतिशबाजी के साथ होगा. दस दिवसीय उत्सव के अंतर्गत महान भारत जो कि इस वर्ष मेहमान देश के रूप में आमंत्रित किया गया है, के पर्यटन मंत्रालय द्वारा भव्य शुभारम्भ के उपलक्ष पर एवं अन्य सभी दिनों विभिन्न लोक-कलाओ पर आधारित सांस्कृतिक संगीतमय कार्यक्रम प्रस्तुत किये जायेंगे एवं साथ ही आगंतुक भारतीय व्यंजनों का स्वाद भी इस अंतर्राष्ट्रीय उत्सव में लिया जा सकेगा |

केंद्रीय वस्त्र मंत्रालय के नई दिल्ली स्थित हस्तशिल्प कार्यालय के विकास आयुक्त (हस्तशिल्प) के कार्यालय से कारीगरों के लिए योजनाएं हस्तशिल्प विकास का बेहतर साधन है। इसके लिए सरकार लोगों को हर संभव सहयोग मुहैया करवाने के लिए तत्पर है।आर्थिक मंदी से उबरने के बाद भारतीय हस्तशिल्प व्यापार पुरानी बुलंदी छूने को बेताब है। इसमें 17 फीसदी की वृद्धि दर दर्ज की गई है। इस वित्तीय वर्ष में दस हजार करोड़ के हस्तशिल्प निर्यात का लक्ष्य निर्धारित कियागया है | सृजनात्मकता किसी भी बेकार चीज में जान फूंक देती है। दस्तकार अपनी कलात्मक क्षमता से उन्हें ऐसा तराश देता है कि लोग उन्हें महंगे दामों में खरीद घर कि शोभा बढ़ाते हैं | इसी को ध्यान में रखते हुए समस्त भारतवर्ष से अनेक शिल्पियों को इस उत्सव में अपनी हस्त कला के पर्दर्शन हेतु भेजा जा रहा है जिसमे हस्तशिल्पों के जानेमाने गढ़ जयपुर से भी चार राष्ट्रीय पुरष्कार प्राप्त शिल्पियों को जिनमे ब्रज बल्लभ उदयवाल ( सांगानेरी हैण्ड ब्लाक प्रिंटिंग ) महेश जांगिड ( लकड़ी पर नक्काशी ) कैलाश सोनी ( सोने चाँदी के आभूषण ) एवं कैलाश शर्मा ( लघु चित्रकारी ) के सिद्धहस्त शिल्पी है, को उक्त उत्सव में भाग लेने हेतु भेजा जा रहा है |

With nearly 200 shows and concerts all free, the Geneva Festival program this year offers the public a varied artistic range. Every evening, from July 21, the club scene will feature bands and DJs. As of August 4 dazzling ensembles will perform each night on all four stages of the Geneva Festival.

From August 4 to 14, in the heart of the English Garden, the Village of India, guest country of the Geneva Festival, dazzle us by exposing its wealth, its traditions, crafts, cuisine. Every night, the club scene in the English Garden offer a curtain raiser musical performances and dancing of Indian folklore.

Geneva Tourism & Conventions and the Geneva Festival Steering Committee welcome you to Switzerland's largest annual event for tourists and the general public.

Thanks to these four weeks of friendly festivities, Geneva Tourism & Conventions is fulfilling one of its missions : to organise large-scale tourist events.

Welcoming India as the guest of honour this year is just awesome because this huge country, the second most populated in the world after China, is also the cradle of some of the oldest civilisations.

At the historical crossroads of the major commercial and maritime routes, the origin of religious movements which are deeply rooted in the daily lives ofmillions of people, India fascinates each and every one of its visitors. Multifaceted, linking a prestigious past with ambitious recent economic development, the Indian sub-continent honours us by its presence at the heart of the Geneva Festival, with a choice of pavilions exhibiting its culture, traditions, gastronomy and folklore, set in the Jardin Anglais.


With more than 200 concerts and shows, taking place on several stages around the lakefront, from Funkytown at Baby-Plage to the "O Watt" stage in the Paquis area, from the "Club Scene" to the Ella Fitzgerald stage, the musical programme for the 2011 edition is rich in surprises. There are just as many other festivities: eat and drink on the terraces of some 150 Stands offering culinary delights from 35 countries, discover Beach Rugby for the first time at the Place du Rhône, live the 5th Fête de la Rade, with its Rowing Sprint Cup, its Gladiators of the Rade, its veteran Racers, or take part again in the 7th slowUp on August 7th, or have a ride on the roundabouts of one of the biggest fairgrounds in Switzerland. From July 21st, return to the "Scene des Clubs" and its concerts in the Jardin Anglais, take part in one of the biggest firework displays in the world on Saturday 13th August, make the most of Geneva's locally-produced food and wines, come and support the participants in the 15th Café Waiters Race, andplan your summer festive menu by consulting the websitewww.fetesdegeneve.ch.
